Soudan Contingent Memorial
Sydney, Australia

This memorial consists of two brass plaques high mounted on a sandstone escarpment at the southern side of the Sydney Opera House forecourt. It commemorates the departure of the New South Wales Soudan Contingent in 1885 (now Sudan). This was prior to Federation of Australia, hence the reference to the colony of NSW and which later became a State of the Commonwealth of Australia following Federation in 1901. The wharves mentioned have long since gone and the area is now incorporated into the public open space surrounding the Opera House.
